A prestigious victory for Lennert Van Eetvelt in the third stage of the Okolo Slovenska (Tour of Slovakia), the Tvrdošín-Dohňany stage of 195 kilometers. The talented Belgian from Lotto, born in 2001, claimed his first seasonal victory at the end of a hard-fought and eventful stage.
Behind Van Eetvelt came Frenchman Benjamin Thomas (Cofidis) and Austrian Valentin Hofer (Bahrain Victorious Development Team), finishing second and third respectively. Italian riders also put in a solid performance, with Giacomo Villa (Biesse Carrera Premac) and Leonardo Consolidani (Bahrain Victorious Development Team) managing to break into the top ten of the day.
The race was decided in the final kilometers thanks to the attack of a quartet composed of Van Eetvelt, Bravo, Decomble and Meehan. The four attempted to resist the chase from the main group, which managed to close the gap only in the final meters before the finish line. At that point, however, the Belgian found the strength for one last decisive attack, proving to be the only one to avoid being caught and crossing the finish line as the winner.
For Van Eetvelt comes a victory that showcases his character and determination, achieved at the end of a long breakaway and a heart-pounding finale that rewarded his courage and his ability to resist until the very last meter.
