This morning, at the age of 91, MINO (Giacomo) BRUNO left us. A lifetime in cycling following in the footsteps of his father Guido (Italian Champion Stayer 1926). Together with his father and Don Ermelindo Viganò, he was among the founders of the National Bicycle Day of Ghisallo (ironically, in 9 days there will be the 62nd edition of the event), a series of competitions in which his presence, first direct and competent for more than 50 years, then discreet but always of paramount importance, was always of the greatest value.
First a rider for U.C. Comense 1887 with excellent results (close friend of Oreste Magni), then, and this must not be forgotten, the many years leading and supporting the same glorious Como-based Society on via Sinigaglia when it "produced" athletes (those who were then 1st and 2nd Series Amateurs) who went on in great numbers to achieve great success in professional cycling.
Moreover, once the amateur activity was scaled down, "full steam ahead" with the then new Junior category, and here, between him as President and Giovanni Roncoroni as Sports Director, batch after batch of cycling prospects, Fabio Casartelli first and foremost otherwise we would need three pages with names and surnames, who also went on, with great success and maximum results, in the professional sector.
More a father than a President, more an expert than a figurehead, more an organizer than a mediator, more an innovator than a conservative, more a visceral cycling enthusiast than a mere observer, more a life dedicated assiduously to the sport of the pedal until the end rather than a "grumbling nostalgic." "Mino": cycling will miss you, but you will be greatly missed by cycling.
The funeral tomorrow at 2:30 PM in Como (Muggiò) Church of Santa Maria Regina via Quadrio.
