Just hours before the start of the third edition organized by RCS Sport, in collaboration with the Abruzzo Region, the start list for the Giro d'Abruzzo Carta Giovani Nazionale has been announced. The race will depart from Cupello and conclude on Friday the 18th in Controguerra.

Today the official list of starters was released, featuring prominent names at the starting line beginning with Kevin Vauquelin, fourth-place finisher at Paris-Nice and tenth at the Tour of the Basque Country. Among the main contenders are Diego Ulissi, one of the Italian riders selected for the World Championships in Montreal, and Mathys Rondel, fourth-place finisher in 2025, who came close to the top 10 at the Giro d'Italia this year.

Also worthy of mention for the general classification are Italians Alessandro Fancellu, Ludovico Crescioli, Nicola Conci, Simone Raccani and Filippo Turconi, along with the evergreen Domenico Pozzovivo, with Lennart Jasch, Wouter Poels, and Santiago Umba serving as outsiders.

There is also a strong contingent of stage hunters, starting with the fast wheels of Dorian Godon, who boasts four seasonal victories, all in the World Tour, and continuing with the experienced Fernando Gaviria, seeking his first win in 2026. Also not to be underestimated are Tommaso Dati, Luca Colnaghi, Nicolò Arrighetti, Riccardo Lorello and Kasper Andersen.

THE OPENING STAGE

STAGE 1, CUPELLO - CASALINCONTRADA, 155 KM
A very demanding stage characterized by an opening section focused on climbing the slopes of the Majella, concluding at the top of a true wall. The approach follows the coast and the Sangro valley. With continuous ups and downs, Bomba and Santa Maria are crossed before climbs to Montelapiano and after Casalupatella, the Colle dei Ferrari is scaled, which with a long descent leads to state road 81. A gentle climb back to Guardiagrele is followed by a rapid descent to the foot of the final climb. The first part takes place on medium-width roads dotted with curves and small towns. The finish is on wide and spacious roads, predominantly straight, with the final kilometers in steep ascent (over 10%) before the last turn with the final straight in slight ascent.
