Cargo: the term originates from Latin, “carrus”, cart, its development is Spanish, “cargar”, to load, its adoption is English (already around 1650), “cargo”, precisely, to indicate goods transported on ships, then aircraft, finally bicycles. Today “cargo” is a universal word, it appears even in the Treccani dictionary, as well as on streets around the world, from parents with children to couriers with packages. And it is also part of a unique festival: in Sapri (Salerno), from Thursday 17 to Saturday 19 September: it is titled “Cargo Mondo,” subtitled “Visions in Motion”, organized by the Auss association (Sustainable Architecture and Urban Planning), in collaboration with the Volunteer Services Center of the Province of Salerno, the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators of the Province of Salerno and the Municipality of Sapri, sponsored by Fiab Campania-Calabria Coordination, Cycling Mobility Promotion Experts and the Order of Engineers of the Province of Salerno. Objective: to demonstrate that “concrete alternatives to the car-centric model” exist, “an intermodal, accessible and low-impact system”, from bike to train. With an innovative and courageous program.

“PedalArt” is “a tour where every pedal stroke is a brushstroke on the canvas of the landscape”. First of all, three itineraries for a total of 157 km to discover three artists (Biagio Mercadante in Torraca, Spanish José Ortega in Bosco, Angelo Accardi in Sapri), a museum (Logos in Vibonati, dedicated to the history of humanity), a workshop (creative: participants will try colors extracted from Mediterranean scrub plants), collective moments called “CargoStory” and “CargoTalk” where different knowledge intersects, finally the new “3nigma – mysteries in the Gulf of Policastro”, led by Francesco Attanasio, a playful and narrative experience of territorial exploration. “Cargo Talk” is a meeting where you can discuss and discover how the world of bicycles is evolving. The speakers: Carlo Scatozza from Fiab on “Proposals for a new and more sustainable urban logistics”; Valeria La Greca on “Step-greenway Cycle Route of the Cedars”; Giuseppe Gallina from the Cambia association on “Campania randonnée: the route of springs and Royal Bourbon”; Antonella Cartolano from the Bussento – Lambro and Mingardo Mountain Community on “Green Mobility Bussento”; Amalia Bevilacqua from Auss on “Bike-friendly Structures”; Luigi Belcastro on “Family Cycle Journey”; Domenico Graziano from the Eva Cooperative on “Bike Workshops and Educating Communities”. Also scheduled is the fair of arts and contemporary crafts “Chiano Chiano F.A.M.O.”, on the 17th and 18th from 5 pm to midnight; the Urban Ride departing from Piazza San Giovanni in Sapri with artistic stops, on the 19th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm; a road safety lesson in Sapri schools on the morning of the 19th; the exhibition “The Colors That Inhabit the Territories” with works from the scientific high schools of Maratea and Teggiano, created with watercolors produced by extracting colors from native plants, on the 18th and 19th, permanent; and an area to test cargo bikes, tandems, tricycles and e-bikes.
