The Trofeo Buffoni, an international race for junior riders, is once again set to achieve tremendous success, presenting exceptional numbers as anticipation builds for the major event next Sunday, September 13. This will be the fifty-seventh edition organized by G.S. Francesco Buffoni under the presidency of Fabio Del Giudice, also featuring the Montignoso Municipality Cup and the Gran Premio Linea Gotica-Circuito della Versilia. The numbers that will be showcased during a day of emotion and spectacle are as follows. The Trofeo Buffoni will feature athletes from three continents (Europe, Asia, and America), with the maximum number of participants permitted at international level, which is 176 riders from 36 teams, including 10 foreign national teams from Mexico, Slovenia, Ukraine, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, and 26 Italian teams.
National road and time trial champions will be at the start, as well as several regional champions and numerous athletes who have worn the Italian National jersey during the 2026 season. They will all parade before the start in Piazza Garibaldi in the center of Forte dei Marmi to receive tributes and applause from the gathered sports enthusiasts, along with some recognition for the most representative athletes. At 1 p.m., following the national anthem, the Trofeo Buffoni caravan will reach the seafront and proceed to Cinquale near the bridge over the Versilia River, where a delegation of athletes, representatives from the municipalities of Forte dei Marmi and Montignoso, and the President of ANPI will pay tribute to the Linea Gotica Monument by laying a wreath. There will also be the presentation of a plaque to a sports director, after which the official start of the race will take place at 1:30 p.m.
THE ROUTE: It will encompass the Versilia coastline and the greenery of the Apuan Alps. Initially, four laps of 15.1 km with the Circuito della Versilia, after which the race will reach the Bivio Bonotti-Prato locality (timing zone) where six laps of the 11.6 km circuit will begin, featuring the Fortezza climb. After completing the six laps, there will be one final brief uphill section leading to Villa Schiff, the seat of Montignoso Municipality, where the finish line is located—the same finish line where French rider Nolan Pedersoli of Academy U19 Region Sud achieved victory in 2025. Sunday's race can be considered a world-class technical test that combines sport with the beauty of the territory it traverses, and will provide a magnificent day for those who decide to spend it between Versilia and the Apuan Riviera.
