BRENNER: "YOU LIVE FOR DAYS LIKE THIS"

Tudor Pro Cycling had been waiting for a day like this for a long time. It arrived on the slopes of Sierra de la Pandera, at the end of the fourteenth stage of the Vuelta a España, thanks to Marco Brenner. The twenty-four-year-old German gave his team their first stage victory in a Grand Tour, signing an extremely important success at the end of a battle fought right down to the final meters.

For Brenner, however, this victory represents something even more significant. The German is experiencing an extraordinary second half of the season. After winning the Tour of Poland in August, today he has managed to add his name to the list of Vuelta stage winners, completing a transformation that has taken on increasingly important proportions in recent months.

On the final climb, Brenner had to face one of the strongest men in the breakaway: Santiago Buitrago, Colombian rider for Bahrain Victorious and current leader of the mountains classification. The two remained at the front as the road became increasingly difficult and the group of breakaway riders progressively thinned out.

Buitrago tried to make the difference in the final kilometer with a powerful acceleration. Brenner, however, did not give in. He responded immediately, allowed the Colombian to gain a few meters, and then managed to get back on his wheel just as the finish line was drawing near.

At that point a two-man duel began. Brenner waited, without wasting energy, until the right moment. Then he launched his sprint and overtook Buitrago, crossing the finish line first on Sierra de la Pandera.

A victory built with intelligence, courage, and above all with the ability to believe in his own possibilities even after a Vuelta that had started anything but well.

"Until now I didn't feel in form. I had some health issues at the start of the race and I crashed. So I really wanted to prove to myself, but also to my teammates, who have worked hard for me all the time, that I can compete at the highest levels".

The German wanted to immediately share the credit for the success with Tudor. Even on the most important day, in fact, Brenner was not alone. "Today I also had two of my teammates with me. They did fantastic work. On the final climb I had the feeling of having the right kick. I started to believe in it. I made the attack".

Then came the most difficult moment. Buitrago reacted and for an instant it seemed he might be the man destined to claim victory. "Santiago passed me, but I managed to recover and in the end I beat him in the sprint".

It is the story of a comeback that is worth much more than a simple victory. Because Brenner demonstrated the clarity needed to manage a complicated situation, without panicking when his opponent accelerated at the decisive moment.

"You live for days like this. Not many cyclists have won a stage in a Grand Tour, and adding this to my palmares is truly incredible".

Brenner's victory also enters the history of Tudor Pro Cycling. The Swiss team, born with increasingly ambitious goals in the international cycling landscape, has finally achieved its first stage victory in a Grand Tour.

A milestone that comes precisely thanks to a rider who, just a few weeks ago, had already shown he was in special form by winning the Tour of Poland.

Brenner has found the consistency and confidence that may have been lacking before. The Vuelta gave him another opportunity and the German made the most of it in the best possible way: resisting on the climb, responding to Buitrago, and then proving he still had enough energy to win the final sprint.

Sierra de la Pandera, therefore, has not only crowned a new stage winner. It has consecrated both a team and a rider.
