A thrilling finale in the fourth stage of the ZLM Tour 2026. Indeed, resisting the fierce chase from the peloton, the four breakaway riders of the day managed to contest the partial victory at the finish line in Schijndel (starting and finishing point of a 210-kilometer stage) where Lionel Taminiaux (Lotto Intermarchè) managed to prevail in the sprint over Martijn Rasenberg (Unibet Rose Rockets) and Danny van der Tuuk (Euskaltel – Euskadi).
In the general classification, meanwhile, concluding his race without concerns in the group at 7 seconds from today's winner, Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) maintained his leadership in the standings, positioning himself to secure the yellow jersey by managing tomorrow's advantage in the Waalwijk-Waalwijk stage of 182.7 kilometers over his main rivals.
THE RACE
The stage was dominated by the breakaway, which started after 27 kilometers from the start, of Lionel Taminiaux (Lotto Intermarchè), Sean Flynn (Picnic PostNL), Martijn Rasenberg (Unibet Rose Rockets), Danny van der Tuuk (Euskaltel – Euskadi) and, until 36 kilometers from the finish, also Bram Dissel (BEAT CC p/b Saxo). Reaching the concluding 11-kilometer circuit around Schijndel, Visma Lease a Bike attempted, first with Loe Van Belle and then with Niklas Behrens, to shake up the situation by launching successive attacks, but all their attempts proved futile, and so the four leaders approached the last of the four planned laps with still fifty seconds of advantage.
Under the vigorous push of the men in Lidl-Trek colors, that advantage progressively diminished without, however, ever being completely closed despite the efforts of the chasers: at 1000 meters from the line, in fact, the four still had 14 seconds, a gap sufficient, giving their all, to reach the finish and contest the victory in a sprint that saw Taminiaux prevail over Rasenberg.
The Belgian, dry since the first stage of the 2024 Tour of Guangxi, celebrated in this way his fifth professional victory in his career, becoming the second oldest rider in the history of the short Dutch stage race to win a stage and the tenth Lotto rider to secure at least one victory this year.
