Mathias Vacek is experiencing a golden moment. After winning yesterday's opening time trial stage, the Czech rider from Lidl-Trek has also claimed the second stage of the ZLM Tour, the Westkapelle - Heinkenszand route covering 193.8 km. In a two-man sprint, Vacek left no room for escape for his breakaway companion Tim Van Dijke (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe), who at least partially consoled himself with the award for most combative rider of the day.
THE RACE. The stage took its definitive shape after just a few kilometers, when a breakaway group of 29 riders formed, which included the leader Vacek and all the most anticipated contenders. In the final kilometers, the group of leaders split apart, and then Vacek and Van Dijke were left alone to fight for victory, with Danny Van Poppel, also from Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe, completing the day's podium. Vacek naturally maintains and further strengthens his position as leader of the general classification.
