Belgian rider Luca Van Boven suffered two broken ribs and a collapsed lung as a result of the serious crash that occurred during the seventh stage of La Vuelta, which he had the courage to finish.

In a statement released by Lotto Intermarché tonight, it reads: «Luca will remain in hospital overnight for further observation and unfortunately will not start tomorrow. He will continue to be closely monitored. We are sad to lose such a valuable teammate and a very positive personality for the team. We wish Luca strength and a speedy recovery».
