That's two. Today at Roquetes, in the fifth stage of the Vuelta, Matthew Brennan claimed a well-deserved second victory, a result that marks a turning point in his career. The 21-year-old British rider from Visma-Lease a Bike celebrates the sprint victory with enthusiasm, emphasizing the importance of teamwork.
"It's a fantastic feeling to be able to win twice in this way," he said, despite a small mistake in the final corner: beating Belgian Jordi Meeus and our Vincenzo Albanese and Alessandro Romele. Then came his thanks to two special teammates, Van Aert and Laporte, who launched him: "Wout and Christophe are the best in the world for their support".
The 173.3-kilometer stage featured an undulating course and a challenging finale, but thanks to fantastic teamwork the twenty-one-year-old British rider managed to complete it flawlessly. "It's a fantastic feeling. We worked a lot in preparation for this race – Brennan continues, his 21st career victory and making his Vuelta debut -. I had the ambition to come here to do well, so the team was really motivated to aim for a good result together. Two victories in five stages are already an excellent result for us, but I think we can get more".
Brennan acknowledged that he doesn't consider himself a pure sprinter, but found a way to adapt to the course, proving that with the right teammates by your side, you can overcome your own limits. With the support of Van Aert and Laporte, Brennan managed to handle the difficulties, confirming that cycling is a sport that requires perfect synergy between team members. Visma-Lease a Bike took responsibility for the group from the early stages of the race, then in the final kilometers Laporte and Van Aert took command and put Brennan in the best position for the sprint. With a powerful acceleration, the British rider completed his teammates' work: "In the finale, I had the guys around me the whole time. This gave me once again enormous support and confidence from the team. We have two incredible world-class riders on the team who can pedal all day. At one point, some echelons formed and they did incredible work to position me well. Thanks again".
