He was one of the revelation riders of the first part of the season - he won the first stage of the Tour Down Under and the Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race as well as a stage of Tirreno-Adriatico - then, starting from the Giro d'Italia, his star faded. Now finally Tobias Lund Andresen has found an answer to his doubts and can look to the future with greater peace of mind: his problem is called mononucleosis.
During the Giro, the Danish rider from Decathlon CNA CGM began to experience severe illness and fever during the race, he completed the event but initial tests did not reveal the problem. In mid-June, after finishing second at the Copenhagen Sprint, his condition worsened and a subsequent test in July finally revealed mononucleosis.
"I went through a couple of really difficult months, during which I didn't understand and didn't know what was happening to my body: I'm not happy because now I'll have to rest and recover, but at least we've identified the problem, we know what we need to do and we can see a light at the end of the tunnel".
