What was supposed to be a Ferragosto training session alongside her father Christian turned into a serious ordeal for Jolanda Sambi, a sixteen-year-old junior athlete from Libertas Ceresetto.
According to the reconstruction of events, the 16-year-old was training on the roads of Rocca San Casciano, when she found herself in front of a car that began a turning maneuver without giving way.
To avoid impact with the vehicle, her father, riding a motorcycle, swerved toward the center of the road and fell, while Jolanda was unable to change trajectory and during braking slid under the moving vehicle, being crushed by the rear tire in the neck and shoulder area. While father Christian got away with some scrapes, the consequences were more serious for the girl, in her first year as a Junior: Jolanda suffered a tendon detachment in the clavicular and scapular area, along with several abrasions and severe trauma to her right mandible. Immediately assisted by 118 emergency personnel on the scene, Sambi was then transported by helicopter to Bufalini Hospital in Cesena where all necessary tests were performed, including a CT scan of the cranial apparatus and examinations of the cervical and dorsal spine, which ruled out other injuries.
For the young Romagna athlete, the medical report indicates 30 days of recovery time and her 2026 season will, in all likelihood, be considered concluded.
