That cycling is the ideal sport for promoting tourism, especially at an international level, there is no doubt. That Sardinia has decided to focus heavily on cycling, neither. And so, after relaunching the Tour of Sardinia this year, the regional government has begun the process for a new venture: hosting the grand departure of the Vuelta España 2028.

As La Nuova Sardegna writes, illustrating the measure approved by the Region, funds have also been allocated to host the first three stages of the Vuelta, the third most important stage race after the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia.

The assembly has allocated 7.5 million to guarantee the island the grand departure of the 2028 Vuelta (three stages are scheduled), as part of the international celebrations of the 700th anniversary of the birth of the Kingdom of Sardinia, then a constituent nation of the Crown of Aragon. The Vuelta takes place between August and September at the conclusion of the Tour, and has consolidated media relevance.

With this move the Region aims at the internationalization of tourism and commercial enterprises, seeking to attract new international flows, especially from the promising Spanish market, confirming its mission, following the America's Cup experience, as an ideal destination for sports tourism.
