Swiss colors dominate the fifth stage of the Tour de Pologne, the Opole - Kocierz Resort covering 218 km, thanks to the decisive climbing attack by Jan Christen. A stage with a predictable development, given the many flat kilometers leading to the foot of the final climb. And it is precisely on the toughest section that the Swiss champion of UAE Team Emirates-XRG made the difference; Christen attacked two kilometers from the finish and then resisted Marco Brenner's comeback attempt, who came up on his wheel but failed to overtake him.
Italy is still represented in the top ten with Bettiol eighth, Scaroni ninth and Sobrero tenth, while Dutch rider Bart Lemmen maintains the yellow jersey as race leader.
THE RACE. The long stage towards Kocierz Resort starts with Almeida's withdrawal, after his crash yesterday. The breakaway is launched by Rémi Cavagna (Groupama-FDJ United), Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step), Patrick Gamper, Dries De Bondt (Jayco AlUla), Tim Naberman (Picnic PostNL) and Taco van der Hoorn (Lotto Intermarché). Six strong riders, but they encounter the determination of several teams to keep the race under control.
