Even if you're a pedaling ace and have been riding a bike your whole life, sometimes you have to deal with the unexpected. This is what happened to Romain Bardet, who rode on Mont Ventoux in recent days with his son Angus.

The 35-year-old former professional now dedicates himself to gravel racing and it was precisely with a bike for this discipline that he tackled the descent, ending up, unfortunately for him, heavily on the ground.

He posted two photos on Instagram today: in one he guides little Bardet, in the other he appears in the hospital with facial abrasions and his left arm clearly bandaged and braced under his jersey.

Bardet doesn't specify the nature of the injuries but comments: "Now time for a few weeks of recovery. See you soon". And at this point, his participation in the European Gravel Championship scheduled for August 30th in Houffalize, Belgium, appears to be in jeopardy.
