The first day of the Italian Junior Track Cycling Championships at the Le Cascine velodrome in Florence closes with gold for Lombardy in the women's junior team pursuit. Emma Cocca, Lara Gorlani, Irene Pancheri and Viola Zambelli complete the 3000 metres with a time of 3'53"576 and secure the national title thanks to a strong performance. The Lombardy team beat Emilia Romagna (Bersellini, Castelli, Sambi, Trabucchi), second in 3'55"949, while bronze goes to Tuscany (Bertolucci, Genovese, Geppi, Giovannetti) in 3'53"567.
The men's team pursuit final, however, did not produce a champion. A crash involving an athlete from Veneto and Lombardy riders Riccardo Longo and Samuele Matteini occurred: fortunately with no serious consequences. In accordance with the UCI Regulations Part 3, Art. 3.2.098bis, the Jury decided to not award the title and to classify Veneto and Lombardy in joint second place, freezing the race at the moment of the incident.
