Aliaksei Shnyrko claimed a double at the China Xizang Trans-Himalaya 2026. With a sprint finish, the thirty-two-year-old Belarusian from Li Ning Star, who was already victorious two days ago at Gongbu Jiangda, conquered the fourth stage of the short Chinese stage race, the Lhoka Municipality-Gangba Village covering 132.3 kilometers, finishing ahead of his teammate Raman Tsishkou and Luca Colnaghi (Bardiani CSF 7 Saber), who achieved his first podium finish after yesterday's fourth place and the fifth place obtained in the opening stage.
The sprint, which from an Italian perspective also saw Attilio Viviani (Solution Tech NIPPO Rali), Mirko Bozzola (MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort) and Filippo Magli (Bardiani CSF 7 Saber) finish in the top ten, was affected by a crash that split the peloton in two approximately 2,500 meters from the finish line, putting out of contention among others Petr Rikunov (Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu Team) and the yellow jersey wearer Alexander Konychev (China Anta - Mentech Cycling Team) who, after hitting the ground, crossed the finish line surrounded by his teammates.
In the sprint, only a select portion of the peloton presented itself to contest the victory, which, after catching the last of the six breakaway riders (among them also Filippo D'Aiuto from MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort) still ahead at the 500-meter mark, was then controlled by Shnyrko, who with today's win reached six victories this season (three at the professional level).
The experienced native of Minsk will very likely be among the protagonists again tomorrow when the sprinters, in the Jiangzi-Shigatze stage of 90.1 kilometers, should once again have an easy time contending for the final finish line of this Trans-Himalaya.
