Surprises and spectacle in the final stage of the Kreiz Breizh 2026 where a long-range attack comprising several general classification contenders ended up overturning the final outcome of the Breton 2.2 stage race.
Breaking away roughly sixty kilometers from the finish and then being caught in the penultimate of eight laps of the Rostrenen circuit by German Jermaine Zemke of REMBE | rad-net (6th in the standings this morning), Louis Dudek (Team Vittel N'side), Reef Roberts and Lars Vanden Heede (Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team), Noah Ramsay (Alpecin-Premier Tech Development Team), seventh-placed Guillaume Adam and thirteenth-placed Ceriel Desal (Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team) battled it out not only for the stage victory but also for the overall win in the final kilometers.
Here, with a decisive attack launched 1,500 meters from the finish line, Adam (Veloce Club Rouen 76) secured a well-deserved stage victory but failed to complete the double: reading the situation well and calling upon his explosive power, on the final climb toward the finish Zemke managed to claw back almost all the gap from the young Frenchman and, aided by the delay with which former leader Victor Guernalec and the other favorites concluded their efforts, claimed the thirty-first edition of the Alpine stage race.
No luck, as far as the remaining podium places were concerned, for Ludovico Mellano (XDS Astana Development Team) who, after moving into third place yesterday with a solid second-place finish at Carhaix, today crossed the line 47 seconds back alongside the green jersey wearer, slipping to sixth place in the general classification. Thirteenth overall was his teammate Mattia Negrente, who proved to be the best Italian at the finish line today (11th).
