The second stage of the China Xizang Trans-Himalaya 2026 concluded with a group sprint, but until the final hundreds of meters the outcome was absolutely uncertain. After dropping his two breakaway companions just over six kilometers from the finish (the Oceania champion from Roojai Insurance Winspace Carter Bettles and Luke Mudgway from Li Ning Star) and resisting the peloton's chase until the entrance of the final straight, Mirko Bozzola (in Asia as a stagiaire for MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort) came close to pulling off a major upset at the Gongbu Jiangda finish line where, once swallowed up by the chasers, it was the fast wheels that battled for victory.
Among these, Aliaksei Shnyrko proved to be the strongest, perfectly guided by teammate Cameron Scott (who finished third), managing to get the better of Davide Persico and securing his fifth victory of 2026, the second in a race of .1 level or higher after the first stage of the Baku-Khankendi Azerbaijan Cycling Race.
Just behind the two Li Ning Star riders (at their 26th success of the season and increasingly firmly among the top five most successful teams of the year) and the Italian from MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort, Alexander Konychev (China Anta - Mentech Cycling Team) had no trouble closing in the top 5 and thus defending the yellow jersey of general classification leader that he will wear again tomorrow at the start of the third stage from the capital of the Autonomous Region of Tibet, Lhasa.
