Lorena Wiebes continues to set the pace at the Tour de France Femmes 2026. After claiming the opening stage in Lausanne and the first yellow jersey of the race, the Dutch superstar of SD Worx-Protime has delivered another extraordinary display of superiority, winning the second stage with the finish in Geneva.
The Dutch sprinter proved unbeatable in the sprint, securing her second consecutive victory and consolidating her lead in the general classification. Elisa Balsamo finished second, managing to follow Wiebes when she launched her sprint. A simply perfect start to the Tour, which once again confirms that Wiebes is the absolute reference point when the race is decided in the final meters.
Crossing the finish line first is always an emotion, but doing so while wearing the yellow jersey has a different flavor. Wiebes herself described it immediately after the finish. "Winning in the yellow jersey on your shoulders makes this victory even more special".
Simple words, but ones that tell the whole story of the satisfaction of the Dutch champion, capable of honoring in the best possible way the symbol of the lead conquered just twenty-four hours earlier. Once again, however, the Dutch rider wanted to share the credit with her teammates, who played a decisive role in the final chase.
SD Worx-Protime worked tirelessly to neutralize the attempt by her compatriot Riejanne Markus, who had been out front for a long time and came close to surprising the peloton.
"This victory is special also because the whole team worked hard. The girls gave everything in the final to catch up with Riejanne Markus. When you manage to win after work like that, the satisfaction is even greater".
It's a snapshot of a perfectly organized team, capable of controlling every situation and putting their sprinter in ideal conditions to complete the collective effort. With two victories in as many stages, Lorena Wiebes confirms herself as the great protagonist of this first part of the Tour de France Femmes. Her explosive power in sprints, combined with the flawless work of SD Worx-Protime, is making the difference and forcing all her rivals to chase.
Every finish seems to follow the same script: the team builds the victory and Wiebes completes it with an irresistible acceleration, in which no one can match her pace.
The Tour is still long and the big mountains will completely change the face of the general classification, but the Dutch rider is enjoying every moment of this extraordinary adventure in the yellow jersey. Riejanne Markus was in a breakaway 39 kilometers from the finish. Despite being alone, she held on until the final kilometer. "She stayed in front for a long time. At one point, we decided to have Lotte (Kopecky) chase as well. In finishes like these you need all the girls".
The victory came with a truly powerful sprint, with the Dutch rider attacking from the right.
"After all the girls' work it was up to me to find the way. I found the right wheels, managed to get away and attacked about two hundred meters from the finish".
Wiebes won by a wide margin. As always happens, victories like this never get boring. "No, every sprint is exciting again. If you make a small mistake, you're out of the sprint and can't finish it for the team. For me, every single sprint is exciting".
Of course, Wiebes is still first in the general classification, but she doesn't yet know if on Monday she will manage to keep the yellow jersey. "I think it will be very difficult. But we'll do our best". For now, the script is clear: two stages, two victories and increasingly solid leadership. Lorena Wiebes has started the Tour de France Femmes 2026 in the best possible way and, at least in the sprints, continues to seem simply unbeatable, and in terms of percentages, she has won 95 percent of the sprints in which she was present.
