The newly renovated Piazza della Libertà at the top of Poggio di Sanremo was inaugurated today, in the presence of Alessandro Mager, Mayor of Sanremo, Alessandro Sindoni, Assessor for Tourism and Sport of the Municipality of Sanremo, Massimo Donzella, Assessor for Public Works of the Municipality of Sanremo, Claudio Chiappucci, winner of the Milan-Sanremo in 1991, and Roberto Salamini, Head of Marketing & Communication at RCS Sports & Events.

Embellishing the square is a sculpture depicting three stylized bicycles, conceived by students from the Academy of Fine Arts, to celebrate the strong bond between the locality and the cycling race. At the base of the sculpture stand the inscriptions "La Classicissima di Primavera" and "Sanremo Women presented by Crédit Agricole – Milan-Sanremo presented by Crédit Agricole" underlining the connection with RCS Sport, organizer of the races, which collaborated for today's ceremony. There is also a QR Code that links to the Classicissima website.

The square is located right at the top of the climb, which has often decided the outcome of the race, where once stood the famous telephone booth, which represented for cyclists the reference point for the hairpin turn that marked the beginning of the descent and from which newspaper and radio correspondents sent live updates.
