Mourning in Treviso cycling. Vittorio Marcon, 83 years old from Albaredo di Vedelago, has passed away. The man, on Monday July 27, was on his tractor when he was struck by a sudden illness. He died after being transported to Treviso hospital.

Vittorio Marcon's passion had always been cycling. As a young man he had raced with the Libertas Treviso jersey as an athlete. After ending his racing career, he was the sports director of the glorious UC Giorgione of Castelfranco Veneto where Alessandro Ballan took his first pedal strokes, and he was president of Magazzini Pellizzari with two of his athletes who turned professional: Fortunato Salvador, born in 1963 from San Martino di Lupari, who raced with Gis, and Andrea Solagna, born in 1967, from Biadene di Montebelluna, who in the junior category won the Italian road title in the team time trial, was Veneto and Treviso provincial champion in 1984 and won a stage at the prestigious Giro della Lunigiana.

Vittorio Marcon had graduated as a mechanical draftsman, but later preferred agriculture, dedicating himself mainly to raising bulls.

He leaves behind his wife Sonia and three daughters: Donatella, Francesca and Giuliana, to whom he passed on his passion for cycling. Giuliana – who began her cycling career as a G6 with Postumia, in the junior category won the Italian keirin title on the track with the Isolano-Gorla jersey. She competed in European and World championships. She retired the following year among the elite with Safi under the legendary president Maurizio Fabretto.

Vittorio Marcon's farewell will be celebrated on Friday in Albaredo.
