Albano Slongo has passed away at the age of 93. He was the father of Paolo Slongo, the renowned sports director of Vincenzo Nibali, Michele Scarponi and Fabio Aru. He also followed Peter Sagan, Elia Viviani and Ivan Basso at Liquigas. He is now the sports director of champion Elisa Longo Borghini, who will compete in the Tour de France Femmes in just a few days.
Albano Slongo, a native of Lanzago di Silea, worked as a master glassmaker, a trade he learned in Treviso, where his workshop was located near the morgue of Ca' Foncello hospital, where he met his wife Luisella, 83 years old. He founded "Vetresi" in Silea (Tv), which employed more than 100 workers.
Albano Slongo had been staying at the Fondazione d'Argento nursing home for several days, where he passed away peacefully on Sunday. He is survived by his wife Luisella, who cared for and lovingly guided him in recent years, his children Giancarlo with Paola and Paolo with Valeria, his grandchildren Marta, Beatrice, Leonardo, Leo Celeste and Federico, and his siblings Carla, Ruggero and Gianni.
The funeral service will be held this afternoon at 3:30 PM at the Parish Church of Silea.
