Como and its warm-hearted public will almost certainly host the finale of the Lombardia 2026 scheduled for next October 10th.
An important confirmation of how the work to bring the conclusion of the "Classic of the Dead Leaves" back to the Como province is already well underway came in recent days from La Provincia, which today revealed how the RCS Sport delegation (together with some figures from the Municipality and local organizers from CentoCantù) carried out the necessary surveys on Monday to give the green light to the return, two years after the last time, of the autumn Monument to the city of silk.
Thus avoided was the possible interruption of the alternation of finishes with Bergamo after, as reported by the Lombard newspaper, between the change of leadership at RCS and the increase in costs to host the conclusion of the event, it was not certain that Como would manage to confirm the successful relay with the Orobian locality.
Everything instead appears to have been resolved in time to allow RCS to reconsider the arrival of the race in Como, a location where for the occasion something truly special is being considered that would make the race finale even more exciting and spectacular. In particular, according to what has emerged, the possibility of a double passage over both the Civiglio and the San Fermo della Battaglia is being studied, iconic climbs that have more than once in the past made the history of the Lombardia by exalting the climbing abilities of great riders.
Among these, of course, is also the winner of the last four editions of the race Tadej Pogacar, who, after his September commitments (certainly the World Championships in Canada and perhaps the Vuelta a España), has already made it known that he will return to the start line to chase his sixth consecutive victory that would bring him to overtake Fausto Coppi at the top of the list of multiple winners in the history of the race, thus consecrating him even more as an absolute living legend.
