The Tour of Magnificent Qinghai now seems destined to lose more and more pieces. After yesterday's stage cancellation, today's stage, the seventh on the schedule, will be shortened by approximately 15 km due to adverse weather conditions.
The race will start regularly from Gancha, where yesterday's stage was supposed to finish, and for the first 70 km will follow the planned route. After the intermediate sprint at Shadao, the peloton will continue alongside Qinghai Lake before reaching the finish in Xihaizhen. The Tongbaoshan Mountain climb will therefore not be tackled, one of the most challenging ascents of the Chinese race with a summit at over 4000 m.
The decision made by the Tour of Magnificent Qinghai organization in agreement with UCI commissioners will certainly have repercussions on the general classification. On paper, today's stage would have been decisive for the final victory, but after the removal of the Tongbaoshan Mountain climb it will transform into a stage perfect for sprinters.
