In the roll of honor stand out the names of Francesco Moser who won the probably most beautiful edition in 1972 ahead of Riccomi and Battaglin and Moreno Argentin in 1980 who surpassed Petito. Pantani finished third in 1991 and was a great, unfortunate protagonist in 1992, while the great Irish rider Kelly finished seventh in 1976.
