Tadej Pogacar is the 71st rider to write his name in the honor roll of the Tour de Suisse, the fourth in history to claim the Swiss stage race while wearing the rainbow jersey. Before him, only the Italian Vittorio Adorni in 1969, the Dutch Hennie Kuiper in 1976 and the Portuguese Rui Costa in 2014 had managed to achieve this feat.
The Slovenian champion is also the sixth to complete the Tour de Romandie - Tour de Suisse double in the same season. This result had previously been achieved only by the Swiss riders Ferdi Kubler in 1948 and 1951, Hugo Koblet in 1953, Rolf Maurer in 1964 and Pascal Richard in 1994, and by the Portuguese Joao Almeida in 2025. For Slovenia, Tadej's victory is the third triumph of all time at the Tour de Suisse following the double by Simon Spilak, 1st in 2015 and 2017.
14 different stage races have now been won among the professionals by Pogacar, for a total of 21 general classification victories, including 5 Grand Tours. The Slovenian has also reached 13 World Tour victories in just 16 racing days, a figure that makes him the cyclist with the most triumphs achieved in 2026.
The Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz has climbed onto the Tour de Suisse podium for the second time, five years after his victory in 2021. Mathias Vacek has allowed the Czech Republic to achieve the fourth top-three finish in the final classification following the three by Roman Kreuziger, 1st in 2008, 3rd in 2009 and 2013.
