What do these two photos have in common besides the presence of the president of the Italian Cycling Federation Cordiano Dagnoni? Many things. Both were taken on the occasion of the final stage of a major Giro, just days apart. With Giulia Bisso (Isolmant Prema Victoria) in Saluzzo at the start of the final stage of the Giro d'Italia women's race, the second in L'Aquila at the end of the Giro Next Gen, where Dagnoni is seen alongside the winner Lorenzo Mark Finn (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe). Obviously, the results achieved by the two athletes are very different.
For Bisso, it was her first Giro d'Italia, at the age of 38, as she decided to race on a bicycle only a few years ago. Finn's story is well-known, we're talking about the promise of Italian cycling who managed to conquer the pink jersey. What Dagnoni certainly couldn't have known was that Bisso and Finn, in addition to their passion for cycling, also share the Municipality of Avegno, a small locality behind Recco in the Golfo Paradiso.
Bisso was even an assessor in the past, and later after marriage she moved to Chiavari where she lives with her husband and three children. Finn still resides in the Municipality of Avegno, in the Salto district. They rarely cross paths during training as they follow different routes, but the fact remains that Avegno this year can boast two participants in the Giro d'Italia, in both the women's and men's races. At this point, all three together will have to meet in Avegno sooner or later.
