But - without taking anything away from anyone, indeed I'm certain I'll have a chorus of unanimous approval - there is one figure who is truly special to all of us.

He is a fountain of general knowledge, an extraordinary connoisseur of cycling matters (so many things that... he never wanted to tell), a cultivator of stories linked to the world of bicycles, a true enthusiast like there are few, believe us.

And above all for us he is an authentic point of reference, a father, a grandfather, an older brother (each of you choose your own option), he is our "wise elder".

It's difficult to condense in a few lines who Giuseppe Figini is for us, as he crosses the finish line of his first 80 years today. And it will be difficult now to answer his phone calls, listen to his typical scolding as a shy person and try to get his forgiveness.

A few lines that are not a mere formality - for that a WhatsApp with cake and trumpet would have been enough - but that want to represent our wishes, our embrace, our thanks.
