The council chamber of the Municipality of Brescia was packed for the presentation to authorities and press of the 63rd Trofeo Città di Brescia by Guizzi-Memorial Rino Fiori-Emilio Volpi-M.O. Bruno Boni-Gianni Savoldi-Mario Colosio-Tino Delpietro-Targa Gino Zaia.
During their speeches, Alessandro Cantoni (sports assessor of the Municipality of Brescia), Roberto Rossini (president of the municipal council of Brescia), Claudio Roncalli (regional councilor of the Italian Cycling Federation), Paolo Zanesi (president of the province of Brescia Italian Cycling Federation), Giusy Pedraccini (chief commissioner of the local police of Brescia), Sara Ghidoni (mayor of Bovezzo), Maria Teresa Comini (mayor of Calvagese della Riviera), emphasized the value of this race, not only from a purely technical standpoint, but also as a spectacular and engaging event like no other in the world.
Alessandro Cantoni, since childhood, has witnessed the passage of riders competing in this race and always remembers it with pleasure. "I am particularly attached to this event because I have always considered it one of the most important sporting events in our city. In this case, sport—cycling—blends with significant participation not only from fans, but from citizens who for one evening can spend a few hours in complete relaxation with extraordinary athletes. I commend the organizers and of course I will be present on race day at the Castle."
Fermo Fiori, during his very brief speech, thanked the cycling community, adding: "Our race, inherited from the Sport Club Brescia about thirty years ago, manages to involve the entire citizenry and fans because of its uniqueness and the spectacle it delivers. We are fortunate to be able to count on numerous and valued collaborators and volunteers, without whom we could not bring such a prestigious event to fruition. I am proud to emphasize that ours is the only international race held in Brescia and its province. I therefore eagerly await June 30 to express my gratitude and recognition to the entire cycling community."
The Night Race scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, will once again take place on the internal ring road circuit of Brescia, to be completed 21 times to cover 121.8 kilometers. Start and finish, of course, on Colle Cidneo in front of the Chalet. Last year, victory went to Giovanni Bortoluzzi (General Store), who managed to beat Alexandre Balmer (Solution Tech) and Riccardo Lorello (Team Hopplà) in the sprint. The defending champion and the 3rd place finisher from 2025 will race with numbers 61 and 4. Along with them, 174 other riders from 35 Italian and foreign teams completed the entry list. In addition to the best national teams, riders from the following countries will compete: Austria (two teams), Australia, Switzerland, Germany, England, Hungary (two teams). Beyond these teams, other foreign riders registered with Italian clubs will also be in the race. Therefore, it is not an exaggeration to say that this year's edition will once again be a true world championship in a night race.
During the presentation, recognition awards were presented to some prominent Brescia protagonists from past editions, specifically to: Mino Denti (1st in 1963, world champion 1965), Ferruccio Manza (1964 world champion 1964), Mario Anni (1965 stage winner at the 1968 Tour of Luxembourg), Enrico Camanini (1969 first night race edition), Aldo Parecchini (1970 two-time Italian amateur champion 1969/1971), Dante Zorzi (1971), Roberto Visentini (1976 world champion 1975 and winner of the 1986 Giro d'Italia). Adriano Bonardi (1972) and Orfeo Pizzoferrato (four victories 1973-1975-1978-1979) were invited but could not attend as they are on vacation. At stake, in addition to the Trofeo Città di Brescia-Memorial Rino Fiori-Emilio Volpi and special prizes to honor Bruno Boni, Gianni Savoldi, Mario Colosio, Tino Delpietro, is also a plaque to commemorate Gino Zaia, the prince of cycling commentators.
