That cyclists are daredevils we already know, but sometimes we still manage to be amazed by what they can accomplish. This is the case of Erlend Blikra, the Norwegian sprinter from Uno-X Mobility who, after withdrawing from the Giro d'Italia, underwent further detailed medical examinations that revealed a surprising result: "The tests I underwent after the crash in the first stage of the 2026 Giro d'Italia revealed three fractures in the lower back, along with a broken rib. It wasn't the answer I was hoping for, but at least I know why I felt so bad after that accident. Now I need to focus on my recovery. This means I won't be racing for some time, but I'll do everything I can to get back as soon as possible".
For the record, Blikra crashed heavily during the first stage of the pink race and went over the time limit in the Chiavari stage (it was the eleventh!), heading home: however, the physical problems continued to plague him and today he finally has the answers, and evidently the treatment, that he was looking for.
