The decisive moment of the race came approximately 35 kilometers in during the final passage over the Mammolshan climb, and it was precisely Zimmermann who was the last rider able to rejoin the group of attackers. «At the start of the final climb I was in a very good position, but right in the hardest section I lost several positions and felt a bit blocked. In the final 200 meters I made a tremendous effort to get back to Pidcock's group. I gave absolutely everything I had and was exhausted.
