It's not his first World Tour victory, but this one has a special flavor, both for the presence of his fans and for a finish that remained uncertain until the very end. 

«It's not the first time I've won a one-day race, but it's certainly the most important victory of my career. I'm speechless and finally happy. In recent weeks during the classics, I had good legs but couldn't express myself at my best. I was always there, but something was missing. Today was my last chance in this block of spring races and it's truly special to have managed to win in this race, which is absolutely one of the most beautiful events» Zimmermann said, highlighting how after a season start below his expectations, he finally managed to find the right path.»

The decisive moment of the race came approximately 35 kilometers in during the final passage over the Mammolshan climb, and it was precisely Zimmermann who was the last rider able to rejoin the group of attackers. «At the start of the final climb I was in a very good position, but right in the hardest section I lost several positions and felt a bit blocked. In the final 200 meters I made a tremendous effort to get back to Pidcock's group. I gave absolutely everything I had and was exhausted.
