Tadej Pogacar has secured his fourth career victory at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, following his triumphs in 2021, 2024 and 2025. The Slovenian champion has reached Italian Argentin and Spanish Valverde in second place on the all-time winners list, led by Belgian Merckx with five victories. Pogacar is the fourth rider ever to achieve three consecutive wins, an feat previously accomplished only by Houa (Belgium), Merckx and Argentin.
Three historic Merckx records have been equalled by the Slovenian. They are the only two cyclists to have:
- won the Doyenne twice while wearing the rainbow jersey. Merckx in 1972 and 1975, Pogacar in 2025 and 2026;
- achieved the Flanders – Liège double in the same year on two occasions. Merckx in 1969 and 1975, Pogacar in 2025 and 2026;
- won three of the first four Monuments raced in a season. Milan-San Remo, Flanders and Liège for both, Merckx in 1969 and 1975, Pogacar in this 2026.
The world champion has made his Monument statistics even more impressive, reaching 13 victories and 18 top-three finishes from 24 total starts and extending his streak to 11 consecutive podiums across the 11 races held from the 2024 Liège to the 2026 edition.
With yesterday's victory, Pogacar has reached 112 career wins. Frenchman Paul Seixas has become the 230th rider in history to podium at the Doyenne, while Italian cycling has now gone 19 consecutive years without winning the oldest of the Monuments, dating back to Di Luca's victory in 2007.
