We lost him this morning, Franco Conti. He was struck by a heart attack while riding his bike to meet friends at Tor Vergata and go out with them. A passerby found him and called for help, but paramedics were unable to save the former Lazio-based professional, born in Montefalco on April 8, 1951.
Father of Valerio, who is a professional rider with Solution Tech Nippo Rali and has worn the pink jersey, Franco Conti raced in the top category from 1977 to 1984, right after winning the 1976 Giro d'Italia for amateurs. He wore the jerseys of Zonca, San Giacomo, Selle San Marco and Dromedario without managing to repeat the results he had achieved in the lower categories.
Our deepest condolences to Valerio and the entire Conti family from the tuttoBICI and tuttobiciweb.it editorial team.
