First seasonal victory for Tommaso Cingolani of Team ECOTEK Zero24, who crosses the finish line first in Castelraimondo (MC) and wins the opening race of the 2nd Michele Scarponi Trophy. A deeply felt race for the team presided over by Luigi Braghini because, given the strong Marche region component of the team, managing to win on the roads of their own region in a race honoring an unforgettable champion like Michele Scarponi has a very sweet taste. A first place that finally rewards the excellent start to the season of the team coordinated and directed by Giuseppe Martinelli, today in the team car alongside Oscar Pellicioli and Sergio Gozio. Yes, because if in this 2026 there had certainly been no shortage of performances by athletes in white-orange jerseys, unfortunately the victory had not yet arrived, despite an endless string of second-place finishes being secured (well six, divided among Arnoldi, Martinelli and Cingolani himself).
But perhaps, destiny itself or someone from above wanted the first success to come precisely in this race, or perhaps, more prosaically, it was the heart, legs and class of Tommaso Cingolani that made the difference, who commented as follows at the end of the race.
"Too beautiful to win here, I really didn't expect to come first, because today at the start there were all the best teams in Italy. I'm extremely happy about this success that I dedicate to my team, my family and my coach."
Endless emotions for Team ECOTEK Zero24, which today fielded not only Tommaso but also his brother Filippo Cingolani, Edoardo Fiorini, Lorenzo Iaconeta, Teo Lancioni, Gianmarco Paolinelli and the Bergamo native Thomas Martinelli. And it was precisely Thomas Martinelli who was the first soloist in a perfect orchestra this afternoon on the roads that led from Filottrano (AN) to the finish line in Castelraimondo (MC) after 117 km. Indeed, the generous Orobian rider launched an attack together with two other men, claimed the intermediate sprint before the grand finale with Cingolani's signature.
"Before my teammate Martinelli's breakaway, I had a puncture at km 10 - explains the winner Tommaso Cingolani at his third junior category race of the season with a second place finish last Sunday in Terracina (LT) to his credit - and after this puncture I had to change bikes. So we tackled the first two climbs in the group, then I changed bikes again and finally we tackled the flat section where Thomas attacked. But then the group reacted and we prepared for the finale. In the circuit the Spanish rider Martinez attacked, but we closed the gap less than 4 km from the finish. In the sprint I entered fourth at the curve 200 meters from the finish line and managed to come back and win".
A beautiful and powerful progression that allowed the Italian road, time trial, cyclocross, and team time trial junior champion 2025 to put his wheel ahead of second-place finisher Lorenzo Ferraro and Lorenzo Ceccarello in third. A stunning result considering this is only the third race Tommaso has tackled in his new category. And great celebration for the Brescia-based team of president Luigi Braghini, sports director Marco Zanotti and technical coordinator Giuseppe Martinelli.
"Yes, I've adapted well to the new category given the first results so positive - commented Tommaso Cingolani, also beaming for having received as a prize the White Jersey of Giulio Pellizzari won at Tirreno-Adriatico - this is a success made possible thanks to this team, Team ECOTEK Zero24, where we all care for each other and help each other mutually, and in which I feel very comfortable."
Eyes now on tomorrow's 107 km race, the second of this Two Days dedicated to Michele Scarponi with start at 1:00 PM from Castelraimondo. A very interesting appointment to understand what the level of Team ECOTEK Zero24 athletes could be on a decidedly more challenging route with the finish climbing right in the wonderful historic center of Camerino.
