In the eyes of the many enthusiasts who flock to the roads of Villa di Cordignano (TV) on Easter Monday, the images and sensations from the Giro del Belvedere 2025 remain indelible. Those of witnessing something special. The performance of a talent that promises to breathe new life into Italian cycling.
A year later, Lorenzo Finn is ready to return - Monday, April 6 - to the Giro del Belvedere, not only as the defending champion, but as World Champion in his category. In the meantime, the 19-year-old from Genoa has triumphed in the world championship in Rwanda, securing back-to-back victories among U23 riders after conquering the rainbow jersey among Juniors in 2024 in Switzerland.
The rainbow jersey will be the main attraction of the Giro del Belvedere next Monday. Lorenzo Finn has all the credentials to give himself another great day - and consecutive back-to-back victories that at the Easter Monday Classic remain for now a unique achievement signed by Claudio Zanchetta in the 1959-1960 biennium. As for victories in the rainbow jersey, the record book shows only one entry: Gianni Giacomini in 1980 (at the time it was called the Amateur World Championships).
Finn will try supported by a Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe Rookies team that is always extremely ambitious and competitive, a breeding ground for talents who then have a natural destination: the World Tour, the Champions League of world cycling. The Ligurian talent has already tasted what it means to race among the big names in this early part of the season. An experience he will repeat in a few weeks at the Tour of the Alps.
"At the Giro del Belvedere I found confidence in my abilities and understood that I could assert myself even in a difficult category like U23. This race is very beautiful and I am improving. Race after race, I'm feeling better and better," said the World Champion in his category.
On the Treviso roads, Finn will encounter a very familiar face, that of the rider who finished behind him in the world championship in Rwanda, Swiss Jan Huber of Tudor Pro Cycling. "The level is extremely high - explains the native of Genoa - all the strongest teams are here. I'll race in the rainbow jersey and that's already incredible in itself, I'll try to enjoy it to the fullest."
"I'll try to approach the race along the same lines as last year: I need to be careful about the difficulties in the first part of the race and then the race will be decided as always on the last two climbs. After the Giro del Belvedere? I'll try to gain experience at the Tour of the Alps with the first team to try to present myself in good condition at the Giro NextGen".
Lorenzo Finn's ambitions for back-to-back victories will be tested on the usual course of 168 km with over 2000 meters of positive elevation gain, with the climbs of Conche, Piai della Vigna, Montaner and Via delle Longhe deciding the fate of a race that always remains in the balance until the very end.
The program for Monday, April 6 opens at 11 a.m. with tastings from the Giro del Buongustare. At 11:45 the team presentation at Villa Mocenigo-Bernardi in Villa di Villa. The start is scheduled for 1:15 p.m., the finish is expected around 5:00 p.m., followed at 5:30 p.m. by the usual awards ceremony still at Villa Mocenigo-Bernardi. In the evening, at 10:15 p.m., an extensive summary of the race will be broadcast on Rai Sport, with repeats on Tuesday, April 7 at 11:10 a.m., Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., and Thursday, April 9 at 12:20 p.m.
