Jasper De Buyst's first, and so far only, race of this season was the UAE Tour, which he finished far from the best. The 32-year-old Belgian was also forced away from competition due to some cardiac problems that led him to undergo cardiac ablation surgery.
With six career victories, De Buyst shared a message on social media to explain that in early March he suffered an arrhythmia, which required surgical intervention performed at Hasselt Hospital.
"The first two weeks were dedicated to recovery, to family, and unexpectedly, I had the opportunity to closely follow the renovation work on my house. A different pace, but a precious one. For the past two weeks I've been back to training hard to return to the group in a few weeks," wrote the Flemish track cyclist, who also thanked family members and doctors for their support during this difficult time.
