Granda Province has always been cycling territory: the Giro d'Italia regularly stages there, the Tour de France has discovered the beauty of Cuneo's routes, the Coppi&Bartali also chose this territory to open its 2026 edition and now there's... a whiff of national championship in the air.
Indeed, the Italian absolute cycling championships could come to Cuneo province. Official confirmation is still pending, but the tip-off from the Monregalese Union is much more than just hearsay.
An important confirmation comes from the words of Piedmont regional sports assessor, Paolo Bongiovanni from Mondovì: "We still need to finalize a few aspects. Considering the airtime we'll have on live television, we're aiming for a route that showcases our landscape excellence and the territory's agribusiness points of interest".
As tradition dictates, the tricolor championships will take place on the last Sunday of June, the day when the "Fausto Coppi" race is held in Cuneo. For this very reason, it's being hypothesized that the professional road race could be held on Saturday, June 27th, on the eve of the "Fausto Coppi". While the time trial would take place two days earlier.
Among the scenarios being studied is a start from Alba: it will take a bit more patience to understand which routes Italian cycling will choose to crown the heirs of Filippo Conca and Filippo Ganna, unless the two confirm themselves once again...
