At Alpecin-Premier Tech, Jasper Philipsen has also won the Milan-San Remo: it happened in 2024, thanks to the help of his teammate Mathieu van der Poel. That year the Flemish rider's victory came almost unexpectedly, but now he is among the favorites to win on Via Roma. He won't be alone and he will have to share the captain's role with his teammate van der Poel, although Philipsen prefers to keep his feet on the ground and doesn't want to hear that he will be among the men to beat in the Classicissima.
«Mathieu is our absolute leader and he is one of the few riders capable of following and counterattacking someone like Pogacar - Philipsen said - For me, it's about having patience. If an opportunity presents itself in the final, I will try to seize it».
After an excellent Tirreno-Adriatico and a victory that boosted his confidence at the Nokere Koerse, Philipsen feels ready while remaining realistic about the challenge ahead. «Winning the Milan-San Remo always requires a lot and in particular everything must go the right way. For me, the chances are slim, but it's worth continuing to believe in it. The race is simply too beautiful to let it slip away».
