The tragic death, which occurred today at 2:30 PM, of Francesco Mazzoleni, an 18-year-old cyclist from Bergamo riding for Team Goodshop Yoyogurt, who was hit while training on the roads near his home in Barzana (BG), strongly reignites the issue of cyclist safety on Italian roads.
"Francesco Mazzoleni's death is a tragedy. I want to send, on my behalf and on behalf of the entire Cycling League, our message of closeness and affection to his family, his team, his loved ones, and his friends. The state of emergency regarding cyclist safety on our roads does not leave us idle – declares the President of the Professional Cycling League, Roberto Pella -. As the Cycling League, we have been working intensively, with the active contribution and experience of cycling champions, since last July, so that effective modifications to the Highway Code can be implemented for the safety of its most vulnerable users, with the primary objective of guaranteeing greater protection during sporting activities, both in training and in competition. We need a cultural change in the relationship between road users, strengthened controls, and a clear and applicable regulatory framework."
