Biniam Girmay (NSN Cycling Team) put his signature on the 39th Clasica de Almeria (1.Pro) held from Puebla de Vicar to Roquetas de Mar over a distance of 189.7 km. The Eritrean, perfectly guided by his teammates and particularly by Hofstetter, achieved his 18th career victory, preceding Belgian Milan Fretin of Cofidis. Third place for Matteo Moschetti (Pinarello Q36.5) who narrowly won the photo finish over Dutch rider Groenewegen from Unibet Rose Rockets.
THE RACE. The breakaway that started from the first kilometers was initiated by Spaniards Javier Ibañez (Caja Rural RGA Seguros), Pablo Carrascosa (Wquipo Kern Pharma), and Ander Okamika (Burgos Burpellet BH), Belgian Brem Deman (Team Flanders Baloise) and Hungarian Marton Dina from MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort. The attack was neutralized by the peloton 22 kilometers from the finish, when the sprinters' teams took control of the situation.
