Alessia Vigilia closed the 2025 season narrowly missing the feat at the Chrono des Nations, beaten by just one second by Ellen Van Dijk, and started the new season again narrowly missing victory in the first stage of the Santos Tour Down Under, caught 300 meters from the finish line by the sprint group.
"I wanted to test my leg and see how my body would respond to the first race of the season: certainly I didn't imagine making such a long solo breakaway, it would have been better if I had some company. At one point I even hoped for the victory, beyond the best climber's jersey but... the stage was 300 meters too long."
And further: "I believed especially with 5 km to go, I knew the finale was challenging especially in the last 3 km and I went beyond my limit trying to resist. I'm happy for Ally's (Wollaston, ed.) victory, and we'll certainly try again as a team."
And regarding her new team, Uno-X Mobility, the cyclist from Bolzano adds: "I found a great environment that gives me motivation to improve. Goals? I would like to do well in the early season classics, Italian championships and then continue to improve in time trials."
Finally, a comment about her fellow countryman Jannik Sinner, currently engaged in the Australian Open in Melbourne: "It would be nice to manage to watch one of his matches and maybe say hello. I need to understand how our return trip is organized..."
