In recent days, with the news that Cofidis might likely skip the Giro d'Italia, thus giving RCS Sport the opportunity to grant a third wildcard, there has been much discussion about which teams could vie for the spot left vacant by the French team.

We, on our part, have explained the situation, listing which teams, according to UCI criteria and the results obtained in 2025, could realistically hope to receive an invitation for the upcoming Giro Rosa. However, from the list of teams examined, we excluded the two latest arrivals in the professional circus (the American Modern Adventure Pro Cycling and the Hungarian MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort) because we wanted to directly ask the UCI for a definitive clarification to avoid any interpretative misunderstandings.

Reading on the International Federation's website how the position of the new ProTeams would be "considered based on the addition of the points scored at the end of the previous season by their 20 best riders", we wanted to ask whether, as can be intuited but not explicitly stated, such a sum must be sufficient to place the new teams in the top 30 of last year's UCI ranking.

Well, the UCI's response to our request for clarification did not take long and confirmed our deduction: "If the amount of points scored by 20 best riders in their new rosters is not enough to place them virtually in the top 30 of 2025 UCI World ranking by team, these teams won't be entitled to receive a “wild-card” invitation from a Grand Tour organiser".

Thanks to this clarifying explanation and after doing the necessary calculations, it can be stated with certainty that both Modern Adventure and MBH Bank will not be in the running this season for Giro, Tour, and Vuelta wildcards: with 1201 points for the first and 1983.3 for the second, both are far from the 2550 points that allowed VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizan to close the last year in 30th place in the team ranking and, therefore, both will have to postpone this dream to 2027, trying first to finish the season that is about to begin among the top thirty teams in the world.
