Johan Museeuw speaks from a hospital bed, but the message he chose to share on his social media is meant to reassure his fans and cycling enthusiasts about what has happened to him.
The sixty-year-old Belgian, who as a rider defended the colors of great teams like Lotto, GB-MG, Mapei, Domo, and Quick Step, has been hospitalized in Kortrijk to undergo tests after experiencing respiratory problems in recent weeks.
Doctors have examined his cardiac functions, and as Museeuw himself stated: "The engine is still running well". The 1996 World Champion in Lugano clarifies that doctors plan to conduct more in-depth examinations of his lungs and respiratory tract, then explains: "There's some issue with the airways, I'm not sure if it might be related to a recent Covid. We are investigating".
Our best wishes go to Johan, who can boast three victories at the Ronde van Vlaanderen and three wins at Paris-Roubaix in his palmares, for a speedy recovery.
