It is never a good sign when a team, small or large, closes down. This time, the Hungarian Continental team Karcag Cycling announced its farewell to competitions on its social media pages. In this season, the Hungarian formation also included Italians Andrea Colnaghi and Riccardo Lucca.
"Our decision is based on financial reasons, not professional ones. The bitter decision was made despite the Karcag Sport Association and current sponsors doing everything to ensure the team's survival. In recent months, intense negotiations were conducted to create a stable long-term project.
The city administration, the Karcag Sport Association and supporting partners, together with ÉPKAR Zrt. have done their utmost to seek additional sponsors and ensure professional operations in the coming years. Unfortunately, without success.
Karcag Cycling was not just a sports team, but also one of the professional sports projects of Karcag City. It performed well in national and international competitions, offering an important opportunity to young talents and helping to make the city's name known in the world of cycling.
The decision was not easy, as all parties involved insisted on saving the team until the end. However, reality has shown that without adequate economic support, such a professional sports project cannot be sustained. Closing the team is not a failure, but represents the closing of a chapter lived with honor. The team members, staff, and supporters leave a significant legacy that will be remembered for a long time."
