A slice of Italy was also present on the Velo d'Or awards stage, the prize awarded by Velo Magazine. Matteo Trentin took the stage, receiving the Gino Mäder Prize, now in its second edition, and assigned by a jury composed of cycling personalities and Vélo d'Or organization representatives: this award recognizes a cyclist's commitment to environmental and social causes, in memory of the Swiss cyclist tragically passed away following an accident during the 2023 Tour de Suisse and committed to numerous environmental causes.
The thirty-six-year-old Trentin, who succeeds Spanish cyclist Luis Angel Maté in the honor roll, was chosen for his commitment to organizing events supporting sick children. Through the Beking Event-Back to Bike structure, Trentin is the driving force behind the Monaco Criterium, which has gathered almost all cyclists residing in the Principality and surrounding areas since 2021.
Their participation is voluntary and includes an auction during a gala dinner to raise funds for the Fight Aids Monaco charity and the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. In addition to this event, Trentin raises awareness among children about sustainable mobility and bicycle use in Monegasque schools.
