Fabio Segatta has had the opportunity to showcase his talent against high-level competitors in races like the Junioren Rundfahrt in Austria (fifth), the Friuli Stage Race (fourth), the International Coppa Montes (fourth), L'Eroica and the Trofeo Emozione, both finished in sixth place. He also had the satisfaction of raising his arms in victory in Calvagese della Riviera and in the Rezzato-Botticino race in Brescia.
How would you describe yourself?
"I prefer climbs, although I struggle in long climbs where I will try to improve. I'm good at time trials, a bit less in sprints. My intention is to level up every year and always stay with the best".
Segatta will become an under 23 from next year and his future is linked with Visma Lease a Bike Development.
"I have always admired Visma, a fantastic and incredibly motivating team. From the first conversations I had in early April, it was clear that this is the right environment to help me reach my potential. The entire organization's technical and scientific approach is at a level I had never seen before, and I can't wait to start this new adventure. It's a dream come true".
Have you had the chance to get to know the Visma world?
"Yes, in July during the team Development camp. Baruzzi and Mattio were also there. Pietro (Mattio) was extremely kind and very helpful. He explained many important and useful things about what awaits me. A precious travel companion whom I sincerely thank".
So progressing in cycling is your goal?
"Exactly. My goal is to make the most of this great opportunity, learn from the experienced staff and, hopefully, become a WorldTour rider in the future. A challenging and demanding challenge awaits me, but it doesn't scare me. In the race, I try to get the best out of myself, and off the bike, I like to think I have a positive attitude. If I fail in cycling, I would like to become a pilot".
Is cycling a family discipline?
"If I pedal today, it's thanks to my uncle Sergio Paoli, a former amateur who transmitted the passion by taking me to local races. From here, the urgency to find a team and race. My first team was Aurora di Trento".
What will be your priority in the debut season with the U23?
"I don't know the programs yet, but I can't wait to see where it will take me and how I can contribute to the team. In a few days, we'll gather in the Netherlands to get to know each other better, then in December, there will be the first training camp in Norway to start preparing with cross-country skiing. I'm very happy to be here and ready to prove my worth".
Fabio Segatta is thus a new rider for Visma Lease a Bike Development. From Povo Oltrecastello in Trentino, born on June 15, 2007, he developed his cycling skills with the Unione Ciclistica Montecorona, a Trentino society from Palù di Giovo, chaired by Riccardo Dalvit. He studies Economics at the Tanbosi school in Trento and has a hobby of video games. He lives with his mother Carla, a kindergarten teacher, and his father Maurizio (former cross-country skier) who works at the Trento municipality. Fabio has two older brothers: Simone and Nicola, who plays football for Trento. His reference champion is Wout Van Aert.
