The three years in the Bardiani incubator have borne fruit. Matteo Scalco is twenty-one years old and has a nice portfolio of experience in important races, now it's time to take flight. Having moved directly from juniors to a professional youth system, the climber from Sandrigo will join a top-tier team. It's too early for official confirmations, but XDS Astana's interest in him is more than just a rumor.
In August, Scalco won the Under 23 international race in Poggiana and since then has followed the first team's competitive program. The Italian professional calendar races have confirmed his maturation: 18th at Tre Valli Varesine, 10th at Oropa, 20th at Giro del Veneto, 26th at Veneto Classic. "Being in the first group at Tre Valli was a great emotion, in the Oropa race I finished in an order where Yates, Vine, and Sivakov are present. I couldn't be happier with this end of the season" said the rider from Sandrigo.
Matteo Scalco has shown he is a solid rider with consistent growth. Good results have brought proposals, and it's now certain that from 2026 we will see him with a new jersey.
His cycling beginnings date back to the G1 category with Sandrigosport. He spent two years as a novice with V.C. Città di Marostica, two years as an apprentice with Fox Team, and as a junior he raced with Borgo Molino Vigna Fiorita. Then the leap into professionalism.
