It was a victory of power and heart that Paul Double conquered at the Tour of Guangxi 2025. His power helped him impose himself solo at the Nongla finish line, winning the overall classification, while his heart was essential in securing the red jersey in Nanning.
In the final stage, the attacks by a tenacious Lafay made the former Polti rider tremble for several kilometers. However, thanks to the help of his teammates and his determination, he ultimately managed to overcome a tricky situation, making this success even more special.
"The emotion was great after the finish line. It was great yesterday too, but managing to complete the job in the final stage was clearly something special," Double said after lifting the trophy for the red jersey winner.
"I got scared when Lafay attacked on the last lap. My teammates told me not to panic, but it actually happened, and I immediately put myself at the front alone to close the gap without achieving much. Fortunately, Hatherly and then Sütterlin arrived, and they were amazing. In the end, everything went well," revealed the Winchester native, who skillfully maximized the excellent condition with which he arrived in China.
"I knew I was in form, but in cycling, you never know what can happen. I certainly wanted to do well, but considering the high-level starting lineup, I didn't expect to achieve such a result. I'll need a few days to truly realize what I've done," Double continued, now awaiting an off-season marked by change and relaxation after his first World Tour career highlights.
"Since I'll probably move from Andorra to San Marino, I won't have proper vacations, but I'll just try to relax, take time to recover, let my body heal from the season's efforts, and enjoy time with friends and family."
