After a championship ridden as a protagonist and a medal slipping away by a whisker, Christian Scaroni analyzed his performance on the French roads. "Ulissi and Bettiol allowed me to reach the middle of the race in the best conditions. When Remco and Tadej attacked, I didn't follow them, knowing it would have been suicide. In the final stages, we were three, and when Ayuso dropped off, I thought I would manage to win the bronze medal. At the top of the final climb, however, I started suffering and couldn't respond to Paul's last attack. What a pity, but I believe our National Team performed really well."
Satisfied with the collective performance of his "boys", Team Manager Villa commented: "They were truly excellent. I must congratulate Christian for a fourth place in a race where champions like Pogačar and Evenepoel rode for over a hundred kilometers. After World Championships and European Championships, I can say we have several high-level riders, some young ones who can still grow and contribute significantly to our cycling. A sixth place in Africa, a fourth place now: these seem like results the entire Italian sports world should be proud of."
